Description
The Multisensory Reading Level 2B is a 30-unit program designed for students who are having difficulty learning to read, including those with dyslexia. It uses ‘science of reading ‘ principles to systematically and explicitly teach early readers to instantly recognize the 30 most common digraphs (sh, ch, ee) using a multisensory approach.
This phonic based reading program is suitable for beginning readers who know the basic common sounds of the letters of the alphabet – /a/ apple, /b/ bat.
It consists of 5 interlinking sections:
- Key word and picture incorporated into a clapping pattern and an appropriate action cue
- Vocabulary development incorporating the focus grapheme
- Comprehension
- Oral reading using the words in the vocabulary development section
- A chunking activity containing the focus grapheme(s) which teaches students how to break words into smaller units to reduce the load on working memory
- A rapid decoding activity using the focus grapheme
- A word building activity using words containing the focus grapheme.
The program is based on current literacy learning and memory research. It is suitable for students who may only know one or two digraphs and have a reading age of between 6 years 2 months to 6 years 6 months
